DOVIE MAY BURNS, age 86, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died in Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, MD on May 8, 2005. Born in Rock Mills, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Eli J. and Erin Rody Matthews Bagley and the wife of the late Rev. Charles Wesley Burns, Sr. She had worked as an inspector in the textile industry. She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. As the minister’s wife she helped to build the Holland Creek Baptist Church from a small mission in Phenix City, Alabama. She loved to travel with her family and friends. She was a very loving person who cared for her family and pets as well as those in need. She was very active in the church.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her two daughters, Patricia B. Reynolds of Bethesda, MD and Mary B. MacKenna of Bettendorf, Iowa; one brother, Hugh Garland of Phenix City, Alabama; one sister, Nannette Miller-Pieper of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Charles Wesley Burns, Jr., four brothers, Raymond Bagley, Eli J. (Bud) Bagley, Jr., Charles Joe (Dock) Bagley, and James Allen Bagley; and three sisters, Sarah Molitor, Margaret Culp, and Emmalean Trudeau.
Pallbearers will be: Michael MacKenna, David Reynolds, Jeffrey Reynolds, Royce Roughton, James Miller, and Alvin Adams.
