Dorothy Preston Corbin, age 83, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on August 15, 2009 at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Benson, MD, she was the daughter of the late James Robinson and Edna Standiford Preston. Her career began at the Harford Gazette, The Aegis Office, and a bookkeeping firm "Mail Me Monday". For 30 years she worked as a Program Analyst with the U.S. Army Research and Development Command, at the Edgewood area of Aberdeen Proving Ground. She loved to travel and play pinochle with her friends. She served on the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Harford County, as well as, Acting Chairman of the Archives until a permanent chairman could be appointed. She worked as a volunteer at the Archives since 1985 and in July 2009, she was awarded the Historical Society Archer Fellow Award. This prestigious award is only given to selected society members for their decided service and accomplishments.
Mrs. Corbin is survived by her daughter, Robin Corbin Little and husband, Jeff, of Bel Air, MD; two grandchildren, Heath DeFranks and wife, Jill, of Abingdon, MD and Holly Vestal and husband, Paul, of Raleigh, NC; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Rene DeFranks and Ian Gabriel Vestal; sister-in-law, Margaret Preston of Millsboro, DE; brother-in-law, Audley Thomson of Abingdon, MD; and six nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Harold Preston, and two sisters, Virginia Hamby and Jean Thomson.
Pallbearers will be Heath DeFranks, Paul Vestal, Steve Six, Joe Kidd, Dave Moyer, and Lester Bull.
