DOROTHY EVERITT WARD died on April 13, 2008 at Lorien Bel Air Skilled Nursing. Born in Harford County on May 12, 1925 to the late Emmett Banks Everitt and Annabel Terry Everitt, she lived in the area all of her life. Mrs. Ward was educated in the public schools and graduated from Towson State Teachers College just after World War II. In this time of critical teacher's shortage, her first assignment was 51 six year olds at Middle River School. Later she received a BA in Education from University of Maryland. She taught elementary school her whole career, the last 27 years at St. Margaret's School in Bel Air. Mrs. Ward was active in setting up a remedial reading program in the Catholic schools of the Diocese, when the idea was brand new. Upon retiring there, she was honored as an outstanding teacher and a brass plaque with her name was placed in the library. A longtime member of St. Margaret's Church, she was very active in its many activities. She also tutored many children and volunteered at the Harford County Historical Society. In 1950, Dorothy married David L. Ward, also a local person. He predeceased her after more than 50 years of marriage.
Mrs. Ward is survived by a son, Michael David Ward of Elkridge, MD; two sisters and their spouses, Ann and Edwin Weaver and Esther and Raymond Dombrowski, all of Bel Air, MD; and five nephews and their families.
Pallbearers will be Edward Gill, Marion Townsley, Christian Townsley, Gregory Mueller, Glenn Weaver, and Carl Weaver.
