Dorothy or "Dot" Kuhl, also affectionately known as "Mamma Kuhl" by her immediate family, previously of Bel Air, died unexpectedly on May 29, 2010. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Reginald Lowe and Ida Lowe Howlett (nee Senkus). She met her late husband, Dr. Edward Carl Kuhl, Jr., at Seton High School and they were married over 50 years. Dorothy had just celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends on May 9, 2010 --appropriately Mother's Day--as she was the perfect definition of a Matriarch or Mother figure for not only her immediate family but many others that knew her.
Dorothy was a 1952 graduate of Mercy Nursing School, a profession that well defined her life of compassion, support and epitomized her helpful nature. She was always making sure others were comfortable, well fed, properly clothed and taken care of, particularly those in need. She directed the Harford County Community Churches Clothing Center which offered clothing and essentials for those less fortunate in the county. She was also awarded as one of "Harford County's Most Beautiful People" for her charity and local community service. In addition she was President of the Mechanicsville Homemaker's Club for several terms.
Dot loved to collect things including books, glass articles and enjoyed antique hunting, yard sales and auctions. Over the years her collections grew and she loved to share stories with others about her various "finds" and treasure hunts. An avid reader, she liked to keep abreast of current events and inform family and friends of the latest news.
Dorothy was a devout Catholic, an important element of her life, and was a thirteen year transplant survivor from John's Hopkins Hospital. She was most recently a resident of Oakcrest Village where she met many new friends and led an active social life.
She is survived by her four daughters, Diane Mitchell and husband, Brian, of Norrisville, MD, Jane Kuhl and husband, Drew Denton, of Baltimore, MD, Joanne Green and husband, Steve, of Bel Air, MD, and Angela Kuhl and husband, Jeff Nickel, of Parkville, MD, and grandchildren, Kevin Denton and Lila Mitchell; and step-grandchildren, Quinn and Rose Nickel.
