Dorothy Carolyn Smith, age 89, of Joppa, Maryland passed away on May 27, 2020 at her home. Born in Baltimore City, Maryland, she was the daughter of Alberto Damiani and Carrie Virginia (Price) Diffenderfer. Dorothy spent many years working as a secretary at a diverse range of fields which finally led her to University of Maryland where she worked for the medical secretary pool which inspired her to pursue her long time dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated with honors, at age 49, from Harford Community College with her AA degree in nursing. She spent her nursing career working for Johns Hopkin Hospital, Franklin Square Hospital and retired from Harford Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved to draw and paint, she also enjoyed playing ping pong, cards and pool at the Senior Center. She was a cancer survivor and regularly participated in the Harford County Relay for Life. Dorothy was a true animal lover and cherished her pets and cared for many wild animals around her home.
Dorothy is survived by her children Marian Lee Moore of Delaware, Roxanne Elaine Lusher of Abingdon MD. and Douglas Christopher Shriner and his wife Phyllis of Joppa MD. She is also survived by her grandchildren Carrie Fowler (Tim), Cynthia Blizzard (Troy), Richard Barwick, Alexander Shriner, Matthew Moore (Lori), William Moore, Jeannie Moore, Nathan Shriner, and Samuel Shriner.
In addition she is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
A private service will be held for family and invited guests.
