DOROTHEA “DOTTIE” A. SLAWSKI “NANA”, age 93, of Bel Air, MD, died on December 11, 2007 at Bel Air Health and Rehabilitation in Bel Air. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late William Edward Cooke Sr. and the late Catherine Martin Cooke and wife of the late Edward J. Slawski. She worked for Johns Hopkins where she was a medical secretary. She enjoyed traveling all over the world with many different organizations and was an active member of Advent Lutheran Church in Forest Hill, the German Radio Club, Crown Cork & Seal Retirement Club, and AARP. Nana has numerous friends and was very good about staying in touch over the years. Many will remember her scooting around town in her car, barely able to peek over the steering wheel. She will also be remembered for her generosity to many charitable organizations, one of her favorites being Advent Lutheran Church and School in Forest Hill. She took special pride in seeing the children thrive there.
Mrs. Slawski is survived by one son, Donald Ellwood Hackman Sr. of Hernando, MS; three grandchildren who live in Bel Air, Terry Hite, Stephanie Hutcheson and Patricia Amos, five grandchildren who live out-of-state, fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by one daughter, D. Lillian Hewitt; five brothers, Jon Cooke, John E. Cooke, Vernon W. Cooke, William E. Cooke Jr., and Gilbert L. Cooke Sr.; and one sister, Bertha Cooke.
Pallbearers will be Doug Hutcheson, Tim Amos, William Jefferson, Jon Amos, Alex Hutcheson, and Zachary Hutcheson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 2230 Rock Spring Rd., Forest Hill, MD 21050.
