Doris Mae Simmons Pennington, age 95, of Bel Air, MD passed away on June 15, 2018 at her home. Born in McIntire, IA, she was the daughter of Coy Ford Simmons and Lillie (Holcomb) Simmons and was the wife of the late Charles Bradley Pennington Jr. Mrs. Pennington was the wife of a dairy farmer. While her husband worked the dairy farm, she worked her large vegetable garden. Canning and freezing from the garden were essential to farm life. She was a good cook and her life revolved around feeding people. She led a very simple life and was very content being there for her family.
Doris was a good listener to anyone who needed it and was a firm believer in answered prayer. A long time member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, she sang with the choir for many years. The highlight would always be the Easter cantata. She loved her Tuesday morning Bible study with lunch afterwards at McDonalds. She also enjoyed her membership with the Churchville Golden Age Club.
Mrs. Pennington is survived by son, Brad (Wanda) Pennington, III; three daughters, Jean (Jerry) Watson, Carolyn (Fil) Kimball, and Mary (Robert) DiAngelo Evans; four sisters, Audrey (James) Hawks, Avis Blakely, Joyce Amoss and Charlotte (Laurence) Harris; brother, Dewey Simmons; brother-in-law, Herbert Pennington; grandchildren, Sondra, Cindy, David, Cara, Sarah, Mark, Douglas, Paul, Bernie, Amy, Julia, JAD and Timothy; 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald Simmons and Larry Simmons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1643 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21015 or to Children of Zion, c/o Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at the same address.
