Doris Henkelman Horn

DORIS HENKELMAN HORN, age 90, of Abingdon, died at her home on January 5, 2003. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edgar William and Mary Elizabeth Thome Henkelman, and the wife of the late Kenneth G. Horn who died in 1987. A public school teacher for 5 decades beginning around 1935, she was a graduate of Eastern High and Towson State University. She taught in Baltimore City for many years, moved to Harford County in 1959 and taught at and then retired from Old Post Road Elementary School. She was active in AARP and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed swimming at Harford Community College. She participated in Art classes at the Senior Centers in Harford County and enjoyed painting wildlife. She attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Abingdon,

Mrs. Horn is survived by two daughters, Kathleen E. Leary of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania; Mary C. Starks of Abingdon; one sister, Audrey Bailey of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Victor Valcik of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Nathan Leary of Tempe, Arizona; and one great-grandchild, Samuel Leary. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Edgar Henkelman; John Henkelman; and one sister, Mildred Diehl.
