Donna Elsie Cox, 92, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away on December 12, 2023, at
the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Upper Marlboro,
Maryland. She was born in Traphill, North Carolina, to the late Doil Leeson and
Nonor Edith (Waddell) Crabb.
As a believer in Christ, Donna’s greatest joy came from serving the Lord. She
was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, helped in the Children’s VBS
ministry, was involved in the women’s ministries, and in her later years was a
devoted participant in the church’s senior groups. She also attended Bible
College to deepen her understanding of the Bible and strengthen her relationship
with the Lord. Most of her lifelong friendships grew out of her church ministries
and her love for the Lord.
Donna loved to travel. Her travels took her to Hawaii, New England, the east
coast beaches, Branson, New Mexico and the Southeast. She also traveled to
Israel and took many cruises to the Caribbean. Recounting the experiences and
memories of these journeys gave her great pleasure. In addition to her love for
travel, Donna enjoyed needlework of all kinds including knitting, crocheting, and
needlepoint. In her later years, she assisted her daughter in making many quilts.
According to her family, her greatest talent was demonstrated in the kitchen.
She was an excellent cook.
Second to her love for the Lord was her love for her family. She is survived by
her loving son, Lew A. (Edna Faye) Carter; daughter, Sandra T. Arnold;
grandsons, Isaiah Daniel Arnold, Brian Allen (Erin Lea) Carter, Adam Edward
(Jennie Silver) Carter; granddaughter, Crissy Michelle (Matt) Pollitt;
great-grandchildren: Kaylea (Richard), Liam, Noah, Caleb, Levi, and Hannah, and
great-great-grandson, Hudson Thomas, and two nieces Sheila Denise Collins and Drucilla Hayworth.
Donna was preceded in death by her husbands, Edward L. Carter, Jr., W. Blane
Edwards, and Clarence Cox as well as one sister, Betty Crabb Russel and two brothers, Sony Crabb and Larry Lee Crabb.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hope Baptist Church located at
8801 Stephens Road, Laurel, Maryland 20723.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few
things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy
Lord." Matthew 25:21.
