Donald Wray Spratt MD, FACS, age 87, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on December 30, 2011 at Bel Air Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Plattsburgh, NY, he was the son of the late Wray Lionel and Gladys Deevy Spratt and brother of the late Barton Wray Spratt. He graduated from Charlotte High School, the University of Rochester with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1944, and earned his medical degree in 1947 from the University of Buffalo Medical School. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served as a medical doctor. He joined the staff at Rochester General Hospital where his father was also a doctor. It was there that he met his wife, Anne, and they were married on May 5, 1949. There he served as Chief of the Obstetrics/Gynecology department from 1973 to 1989 and as President of the medical staff before retiring in 1996 at the age of 72. He was a member of the Rochester Academy of Medicine, Monroe County Medical Society, Medical Society of the State of New York, the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons and Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. He loved sailing, reading, photography, fishing, woodworking, building furniture and building and flying model airplanes. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and was an Eagle Scout.
Dr. Spratt is survived by his wife, Anne Garside Spratt of Bel Air, MD; son, Donald R. Spratt and his wife, Evelyn A.K. of Bel Air, MD; daughters, Cynthia W. Spratt of Madison, WI, Deborah A. Spratt of Calgary, Alberta and Jennifer E. Spratt of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Robert F. and Catherine A. Spratt; and 13 nieces and nephews.
