Donald St. Clair Hess, age 77, lifelong resident of Fallston, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised on the family farm on Hess Road, he was the oldest son of Spurgeon St. Clair Hess and Margaret Chenworth Hess. Educated in Harford County Public Schools, he graduated from Bel Air High in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Sullivan, on June 25, 1966. Donald graduated from Loyola College, now University. He worked for over 16 years for the State Roads Commission, sold real estate, and was later employed by the National City Mortgage Company as manager. Donald was well known in the business community, having served for many years as the Chairman of the Harford County Liquor Control Board. Above all, Donald was a dedicated family man.
Donald is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years, Susan Sullivan; his three sons, Kevin, John (Jenn), and Chris (Jodi); three grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexis, and Ford; and a brother, Carroll.
Donald was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council, as a member of the choir, and as a Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Irishman’s Chorale. Donald and Susan enjoyed many trips through the United States and Europe, especially with their German “family”. But nothing pleased Donald more than being surrounded by his family and friends as he entertained them in the family’s home in Fallston.
