Donald Robert Spratt, age 63, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on February 24, 2025, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Born in Rochester, New York, he was the son of the late Donald and Anne (Garside) Spratt and the beloved husband of Evelyn (Kassouf) Spratt.

A man of many passions and deep devotion, Donald dedicated his time and talents to several organizations. He served as a board member of the Maryland State Boychoir, was a volunteer performer at Ballet Chesapeake, and was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Bel Air. He was also a member of both the Virginia and D.C. Bar Associations.

Donald was a lifelong scholar, graduating from Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, NY, in 1980. He earned his degree in economics from the University of Rochester in 1983, where he also focused on English, statistics, and philosophy. He achieved the Dean’s List each semester. In 1984, he completed his MBA from the same university. In 1987, he received his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law in Virginia. He concentrated on corporate law with coursework in securities, financial institutions, and real estate.

In 1987, he became a Staff Accountant in the Tax Department at Arthur Anderson & Company in Washington D.C. In 1989, he worked for Mays & Valentine in Richmond, Virginia as an Associate Attorney in the Tax Department. From 1990-2025, he was a Senior Claims Professional in the Surety and Financial Enterprises division at Zurich American Insurance Company.

He presented at various legal conferences, including the American Bar Association. In 2011, he was a co-author for a chapter in the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction titled Construction Insurance: A Guide for Attorneys and Other Professionals. In addition to his scholarship in law, he earned an award in 1991 for Teamwork in Action from the Fidelity Deposit Co. In 2003, he also received the Silver Award for his consistent commitment toward excellence, innovation, and collaboration from Zurich American Insurance Company. Outside of practicing law, he served as a reader on four dissertation committees for the School of Education at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

He had a deep love for the outdoors, cherishing trips to the Outer Banks, NC, and hiking whenever he had the chance. A dedicated sports fan, Donald played volleyball and football in high school and remained an avid supporter of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. He also volunteered at the Babe Ruth Museum upon moving to Baltimore.

Donald was a voracious reader, especially fascinated by nonfiction accounts of Arctic exploration. He had a lifelong fascination with sharks, never missing an episode of Shark Week. His sense of humor was unmatched, with a particular love for Will Ferrell’s movies. A devoted father, he happily indulged his daughter’s love for Taylor Swift, embracing music of all genres.

Above all, Donald was a family man. His greatest joy in life was the love he shared with his family, always placing them first. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his son, Robert Fraser Spratt; daughter, Catherine Ann Spratt; sisters, Cynthia Wray Spratt, Deborah Anne Spratt, and Jennifer Elizabeth Spratt.
