Donald “Don” Lawrence Kurtz, age 95, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on January 30, 2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the beloved son of the late Harry and Anna (Mechlinski) Kurtz and brother of the late Willis Kurtz and the late Shirley (Kurtz) Schultz. Don was a devoted husband, sharing 68 years of marriage with his loving wife, Mary Loretto (Evans) Kurtz.
Don is survived by his cherished family, including his sons, James (Helen Kahoe) Kurtz, and Gary (Mary Jo) Kurtz, and daughters, Donna Kurtz, and Diane (Timothy) McClellan. He leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance for his grandchildren: David Lawrence (Alison) Kurtz, Caroline Ann Kurtz, Samuel Joseph Kurtz, Joseph Matthew Kurtz, Madison Anne McClellan, and Kendall Nicole McClellan. His great-grandchildren, Zoey Ann Kurtz, Ava Riley Kurtz, and Natalie Paige Kurtz will always carry his memory in their hearts.
Don was a 1942 graduate of the Shrine of the Little Flower School in Baltimore, Maryland and went on to graduate from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1947. After working for the SSA and the IRS, Don served his country as an Army veteran during the Korean conflict. In 1951, Don began a career with the Armco Steel Corporation from where he retired in 1987.
Being a native of Baltimore, Don was a near-professional Duckpin bowler earlier in his life, and a fan of the Orioles, (Baltimore) Colts and Ravens. His favorite crabcake was from Pappas’ on Taylor Avenue.
Don liked to read mystery novels, do word search puzzles, watch Animal Planet and play Wordle. He loved to dine out (as long as there was no cheese in his food) and was a computer savvy online shopper at Amazon and Walmart. Don was loved by all at his assisted living facility and was known for his sense of humor. He went to an exercise group almost daily and played Bingo several times a week. And he loved his dogs, especially his grand-dogs!
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the Traditions Deerfield staff and nurses, and all who helped Dad over the past 15 months.
