DIZA GREEAR, age 88, of Joppa, died at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Riverside on September 9, 2005. Born in Ashe County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Nancy Maude Absher Richardson, and the wife of the late Woodrow E. Greear.
Mrs. Greear came to Maryland from North Carolina in 1943 and went to work at Glenn L. Martin’s. She met her husband to be when he drove a van pool to take workers to Martin’s. She kidded him the entire 56 years that she never got her money that she paid to ride in the van.
Later, she worked as a cook at the White Star Restaurant in Edgewood for 24 years. She considered the Coomes’ Family her family. She kept trying to retire, but worked part time until Bobby Coomes sold the business. They retired together.
She enjoyed quilting, making fancy pillows, embroidery and sewing until macular degeneration took its toll on her eyes.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling. They made several trips to California and toured the states of Nevada, Arizona and California while there. She also enjoyed going to Florida in later years.
Mrs. Greear is survived by two daughters, Barbara S. Owen of Joppa and Belinda L. Pusey of Edgewood; five grandchildren, Michelle Dorsey of Joppa, Gilbert G. Owen, Jr. of Joppa, Holly M. Henderson of Abingdon, Lisa C. Owen of Joppa, and Julie E. Pusey of Edgewood; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Jean Henderson, Ernest Pusey, Gilbert Owen, Jr., Michelle Dorsey, Lisa Owen and Hollie Henderson
