Diane Jean Oliver Spear, age 72, of Forest Hill, MD, died on October 27, 2016 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. She was born in Washington, DC to Robert Oliver and Diane (Podlesney) Anderson.
Diane began her career in the secretarial pool at Aberdeen Proving Ground. At the same time she took college courses, maintaining straight A's while earning her undergraduate degree from Towson University. She accomplished all this while raising her daughter, Jeannie. She was the first person in her master's program at Florida Institute of Technology to earn a Masters of Business Administration with straight A's. She was promoted to contract specialist and eventually to Chief of Procurement Policy in the U.S. Army Soldier, Biological and Chemical Command's acquisition center. She earned numerous awards, including the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award. She retired from the federal government after 38 years of service.
Diane developed rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 28, which led to numerous physical problems. Her stamina and resilience amazed all who knew her.
Diane, affectionately known as Tookie, had a passion for horses, birds and animals of all kinds, especially her beloved dogs and cats. She enjoyed holidays and beach trips with family. She loved collecting post cards and horse memorabilia.
Survivors include her significant other of nearly 40 years, Lance W. Davis; her daughter, Lara Jeanne Slapak Allison; her brothers, Paul Scott Anderson and spouse Cynthia L. Anderson and Martin R. Anderson and spouse Nadine R. Anderson; and her grandchildren, Kayleigh J. Allison and Cassie R. Allison. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bruce R. Oliver.
