Aberdeen

Dennis Simms, age 87, of Joppa, passed away on December 30,2023 at the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House in Forest Hill, Maryland. Born in Baltimore County, she was the daughter of Oliver Dea and Willie Kate (Ferren) Lambert. She was the wife of 68 years to the late Charles Edward Simms Jr.

Dennis is survived by son Mark Simms and his wife Michelle and sister Nancy Cornwell. Also, grandchildren William Bob Magness, Brandon Simms, Brittany Simms, Summer Simms, Noah Simms, and Noel Simms. She was a best friend of 67 years to Mamie Cloman, Godmother to Pamela Winnie and Edwin Cloman Jr. and second mom to Linda Delbridge.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Deborah Jean Williams, siblings Anna Lou Kirk, Cecil Lambert, Dolly McNutt, Kathleen Vallincourt, Donald Lambert, Audrey Moore and Becky Lay Jeppi.

Mrs. Simms was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, she also worked as a school bus driver, at Matcom Federal Credit Union and Carrier HVAC. She enjoyed a long retirement with her husband, family, and friends. They were avid campers, travelling much of the United States including Alaska. Dennis was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Joppa Magnolia Fire Company when her husband was a member as well as being a Brownie Troop leader there.

She enjoyed reading, taking long walks and sewing. She was one of the Trinity Quilters, helping make dozens of warm quilts which are distributed here and throughout the world. She enjoyed fishing but wouldn’t ever eat her catch! She didn’t enjoy cooking but fortunately her husband did:) She enjoyed gardening, often sharing with neighbors, and tending her flowers. She was a second pair of hands for her husband’s many home projects, even helping restore a vintage truck. They actually built their own house, starting with a garage which was a comfortable small home until they could add on.

Her best quality was her ability to give freely of her time and energy to caring for those in need. She helped take care of several siblings when their health took a turn for the worse. Dennis spent the last good years of her life caring for Charlie as he battled cancer and assisting Debbie as her health needs changed. She was a loyal friend to many, and she will be very much missed.
