SGM (Ret.) Dennis "Mike" Bensley, Sr., age 80, of Edgewood, MD, died after a short illness on January 24, 2016, at the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, MD. He is predeceased by his wife, Renate, of 50 years. Born in Medina, NY, he is survived by his son Dennis M. Bensley, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Mt. Airy, MD; son, Glenn R. Bensley and his wife, Dawn, of Abingdon, MD; three grandchildren, Kristen, Zachary and Rachael; and sister, Mary Stillinger.
He served in the U.S. Army for 24 years and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He earned several medals, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After retiring from the U.S Army, he worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric.
He was an avid reader, loved fishing and adored his grandchildren. He was a generous humorous man with many friends. He had a wonderful life and everyone is blessed for being part of it.
A private inurnment service will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
