Dennis "Denny" Wayne Huckeba, 74, of Bel Air, Maryland, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 9, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Jewel (Kelley) Wheeler and the devoted husband of Barbara Jane Huckeba.
Denny lived his life with a strong faith in God. He trusted in the promises of eternal life through Jesus Christ and that he would one day be reunited with his loved ones who had gone before him—including family, dear friends, and his fallen brothers-in-arms.
A true patriot, Denny honorably served his country as a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He continued his dedication to public service as a firefighter, pump operator, and EMT for the Baltimore City Fire Department and later as a Baltimore County Police officer, where he was a proud member and sniper on the SWAT team. After he retired from the police department, he worked in various roles for the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and in electrical services. His courage and unwavering commitment to protecting others reflected both his love for his country and his calling to serve.
Above all, Denny's greatest joy was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a gifted singer, sharing his talent as a proud former member of the Bay Country Gentlemen group and New Covenant Players. He was also an accomplished marksman who took great pride in his skill.
Denny is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara; daughter, Jessica Lynn Holt and son-in-law Jimmy Holt; and daughter, Kelly Lauren Carmello and son-in-law Andrew David Carmello; brother, Robert Huckeba and sister-in-law Rachel Huckeba; and his cherished grandchildren, Grace Alysabeth Carmello, Braden Connor Holt, Avery James Carmello, Katelyn Elizabeth Holt, Isabella Nevaeh Carmello, Lillyana Jane Carmello, Kinsley Charlotte Carmello, and Kane Anthony Carmello.
He was welcomed into eternity by his mother as well as his sister, Sharon Koller. While his earthly presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6
A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled in the coming weeks to honor Denny’s life and legacy. At a later date, he will be inurned with military honors at Arlington National Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Support US Armed Forces (https://susaf.org/donate).
