Denis David Canavan

April 30, 1948 — December 3, 2008

Denis David Canavan, age 60, of Bel Air, MD, formerly of Rumson, NJ, died on December 3, 2008 at his son's home in Havre de Grace, MD after a hard fought battle with cancer. A graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, St. Anselms College, and Morgan State University, he was influential across the state in providing his expertise in the areas of Urban Planning and Design. He was an avid football fan always rooting for the Superbowl XLII New York Giants. He also enjoyed playing softball and golfing, going skiing, and attending horse races. He was a devoted father, husband, uncle, brother and friend.

Mr. Canavan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara Perrini Canavan of Bel Air, MD; son, John Travis Canavan of Havre de Grace, MD; brother, Michael Vincent Canavan of Monmouth Beach, NJ; sisters, Catherine Ann Gaffney of Rockford, IL, Marie Barbara Canavan of Ridgefield, CT, and Maureen Elizabeth Barrett of Newport, RI.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Golden Retriever Rescue at Gold Heart, P.O. Box 206, Mount Airy, MD 21771 or to Mason Dixon Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue, 19241 Middletown Rd., Parkton, MD 21120.
