DEBORAH ELAINE THOMAS, age 49, of Bel Air, formerly of Merced, California, died in Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Riverside on May 5, 2004. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Dorothy Mae Norris Thomas of Bel Air and the late Clifton William Thomas, Sr. A Harford County resident for the past three years, she attended Harford Community College and was working on her business degree. She had battled kidney disease for an extensive time, but had received a kidney from her sister, Joyce E. Thomas, on June 18, 2002. She lost her battle with cancer that was discovered in the end of January. She enjoyed decorating, needlepoint, and cooking. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, Miss Thomas is survived by one daughter, Jamila Y. Demby of Atlanta, George; three brothers, Clifton W. Thomas, Jr. of Bel Air; Larry E. Thomas of Jessup; Aaron D. Thomas, Sr. of Oxford, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Joyce Eleen Thomas of Owings Mills; Sharon Ann Stansbury of Bel Air; Maria E. Mahone of Bel Air; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 116 Alice Ann Street, Bel Air, MD 21014 for the Deborah E. Thomas Memorial Fund.
