David E. Renard, age 89, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at Viva Assisted Living at Bel Air.
Born in New Rochelle, New York, David was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Bailey) Renard, and the beloved husband of the late Annette (Silman) Renard. He grew up in Milford, Connecticut, spending summers as a lifeguard at the local beach.
A proud veteran, David served in the U.S. Army in the mid 1960s and continued his service as an Army civilian employee. He dedicated over 35 years of service as an environmental scientist to Edgewood Arsenal/Aberdeen Proving Ground, retiring in February 1998.
David was a passionate model railroader from his teenage years and co-founded the Harford Association of Railroad Modelers (HARM). He was particularly proud of earning the designation of Master Model Railroader #35. He generously shared his knowledge by teaching model railroading at Harford Community College, inspiring others with his enthusiasm.
An avid traveler, David achieved the rare feat of visiting all 50 U.S states, more than 40 countries, and all seven continents. His affection for penguins was sparked by his visit to Antarctica. He delighted in hearing stories of his family's travels and passed along his adventurous spirit and wanderlust to future generations.
David was also a devoted Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens fan, a lover of classical music, and a lifelong admirer of John Denver and could always be counted on to enjoy a good "7th Inning Stretch." He cherished time spent with family, his bearded collies, Farley and Maggie, and was especially proud of his grandchildren. David’s legacy is one of curiosity, kindness, and connection — he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived by his daughter, Michelle R. Leipold (Wayne) of Richmond, VA; son Kenneth D. Renard (Jennifer) of Abingdon, MD; grandchildren, Cameron and Rachel Leipold, Nathan Renard; and sister, Susan Phillips.
