David "Glen" Niswonger, a Maryland Transportation Authority Assistant Administrator - Tunnels died Sunday at his vacation home in Avilton, Garrett County, Maryland. He died from Hepatitis C while waiting on the liver transplant list at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Mr. Niswonger was with the Maryland Transportation Authority since September 1967. He started as a maintenance worker on the John F. Kennedy Highway and worked his way up to Assistant Administrator of the Baltimore Harbor and Fort McHenry Tunnels in maintenance operations. He was a respected mentor throughout the Authority.
He was born in Havre de Grace and resided in Aberdeen, Maryland. He was an avid hunter, loved watching the Orioles, a NASCAR fan and a great fisherman.
He was the beloved husband of Terry Ellen (Horn) Niswonger of 15 years, son of Elizabeth Rose (Moretz) Niswonger of Aberdeen and the late Harvey Levi Niswonger, son-in-law of Mabel E. Horn, Essex, Md. Devoted father of Danielle Renee and husband Timothy Smith, Perryman, Md and David Brian Wolf, Aberdeen, Maryland, cherished grandfather of Eric Williams, Sarina and Makayla Smith, all of Aberdeen. Brother of James Dale and wife Peyton Niswonger, Aberdeen, Maryland, Nancy Collins, Churchvillle, Md and Carol and husband Calvin Gibbs, Abingdon, Md, brother-in-law of John and Norma Horn, Essex, Maryland, Joan and Jerry Walden, Sr., Middleburg, Florida, uncle of Shelly Niswonger, Aberdeen, Md, Justin and Craig Gibbs, Abingdon, MD, Shawn and Amanda Kelly and Casey Collins, Churchville, MD, Jerry and Brenda Walden Jr, Sean and Holly Walden, and Zola and David Foret, all of Middleburg, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David Glen Niswonger Grandchildren College Scholarship Fund c/o Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 1176, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
