On November 7, 2009, Daris Clark Jones, 48 years old of Joppatowne, loving father to Ryan Jones of Joppatowne and Alexander and Austin Jones of Bel Air, loving son to Herman C. and June A. Jones of Joppatowne, loving husband of Sherri Jones of Joppatowne, brother to Bryant K. Jones, uncle to Bryant Jr., Matthew, Clarissa & Kyle Jones. Daris went home to be with his Lord and Savior after a 5 ½ year battle with throat cancer. Daris was a brave warrior in his battle against the cancer. He had a beautiful homecoming with his Lord Jesus.
Daris was a stellar electrician, he began in the trade at only 14 years old with his little league manager, Paul Dressler. Daris was a 1979 graduate of Joppatowne High School where he excelled in football and baseball. Daris's high school friend, Kelly Bush, who played with Daris on Joppatowne's junior varsity and varsity football team, puts it best in his own words:
"To say that Daris was a star athlete only begins to describe his God gifted ability. His determination and courage is what drove him to become one of the best athletes ever in Harford County. As only a freshman, Daris started at linebacker for the undefeated state champion 1975 Joppatowne Mariners. His athletic ability was not just limited to football, he also excelled in baseball where he was sought after by several major colleges. As a friend, it was an honor to play beside him! Thank you Daris for all the memories. Your brother in Christ."
Daris loved to boat and fish or just cruise with friends and enjoyed watching fishing and hunting shows on TV. Daris will be solely missed by all. We his family will miss him at our special Christmas gatherings on Christmas Eve attending church services and coming back to his parents house and having a special buffet dinner and opening presents and celebrating the birth of Christ our Savior.
Rev. Ron Slayton of Towne Baptist and Rev. Johnnie Brewer of New Life Baptist will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ryan Jones, Herman Jones, Austin Jones, Bryant Jones Jr., Matthew Jones, and Kelly Bush.
