Daniel J. Swiec, age 83, of Joppatowne, MD passed away on January 5, 2013 at his home. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Andrew and Annie Mikulski Swiec. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country in Japan, where he was shipped on November 19, 1952. In February 1953, he was transferred to the Medical Corps and went into the frontlines in Korea. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars and the Korean Campaign Medal. He was employed, for 52 years, by Lucas Brothers Furniture, and for 10 years, drove a cab for Sun Cab on weekends. A natural athlete, he played for the Orioles Farm Team prior to going in the army. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Swiec is survived by his wife, Christine Swiec married 55 years; son, Colonel Gary D. Swiec, DDS and wife, Tien Swiec, DDS of Clarksville; daughter, Linda Finlay and husband, Scott Finlay, DDS of Annapolis; and grandchildren, Michelle and Aline Swiec and Brigid Finlay.

Following the memorial, a luncheon will be provided at Giovanni's Restaurant located at 2101 Pulaski Hwy (Route 40), Edgewood, Maryland.
