Dan O’Neill of Fountain Green died January 21, 2022, at Upper Chesapeake Hospital. He was 90.
Born in Baltimore on October 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Senator Howard S. and Madeleine Robinson O’Neill. He attended St. Margaret Elementary School and Bel Air High School. He graduated from Loyola College in 1952 with a BS degree in Physics and took graduate courses in Economics at the University of Delaware.
He spent most of his professional career at Aberdeen Proving Ground, first with the Weapons Systems Laboratory of the Ballistics Research Laboratories as a Systems Analyst, and then with the Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity as a Senior Executive. From 1955 to 1957, he was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, serving as a Specialist First Class. After he retired from APG in 1989, he worked in real estate with Harry Hopkins Company and as an aerospace consultant with Bunyard Enterprises, Inc. of Alexandria, VA. He was active in church work at St. Margaret Catholic Church and during his later years at St. Ignatius – Hickory, helping to build and furnish the New Parish Church and the expanded Parish Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Dalton) O’Neill of 66 years; his son, Mark O’Neill (Anya) of Belcamp, MD; his daughter, Mary Lynn Bowers (Steve) of Havre de Grace, MD; three grandchildren, Mathew O’Neill, Philip O’Neill, and Nickolas Bowers; and one sister, Nancy Rideout of Lebanon, NH.
He was preceded in death by his son, Howard Kevin O’Neill of Kenna, WV.
