D. Russell (Coach) Guhr. Jr., age 67, of Bel Air/Forest Hill, MD went to be with his Savior and Lord on March 20, 2022, at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford, North Carolina. Born on the Naval Base in Chincoteague, Virginia, he was the son of Donald and Joan (McFadden) Guhr, Sr.
In addition to his parents, Russell is survived by his two devoted children, Tara Guhr Lee and Taylor Guhr; his son-in-law, Mack Lee; grandsons, Matthias and Gaius Lee; his sister’s family, Maryjane and Warren Berk; his nephews, Paul and wife Kim, and Travis Berk; his nieces, Ann and Sarah Timmons; grand nieces, Lily and Kaylee Berk and his former wife, Beth Hollingworth.
Russell was a life-long resident of Harford County, MD. He graduated from Bel Air High School and Frostburg State College with a Secondary Education Degree. Russell dedicated his adult life to teaching students. He devoted his first twelve years to Edgewood High School, where he also coached Tennis and Basketball, and was a homecoming advisor and National Honor Society Sponsor. He then taught briefly at Bel Air Middle School and coached for the Bel Air High School Tennis Team. His unwavering love of teaching took him to Harford Technical High School as a Government, World History and AP World History Educator. At HTHS, he coached Tennis, was coordinator for the MD State Tennis High School Tournament and coordinator for the HTHS Bowling League.
In his spare time, Russell enjoyed several activities. As a teenager, he belonged to the BAHS Chess Team and Marching Band. As a college student, he belonged to the cartography fraternity and coached Tennis for Bel Air Parks and Rec. Throughout his adult life, he played tennis with friends and was an avid bowler at Edgewood Fair Lanes and Forest Hill Lanes with at least two perfect games of 300. His favorite US Historical Era was the Civil War, and he spent many hours exploring Southern Civil War Battlefields. He was an advocate for the conservation of US Battlefields. In his retirement years, he was employed at Forest Hill Lanes and was a faithful member of Christ Church of Forest Hill, Rock Spring Parish, where he served as Senior Warden. His journey here on Earth is completed, his eternal life with Christ has begun.
