Cw4 Robert Henry Whitehead, Sr. (Ret.)

CW4 Robert Henry Whitehead (Ret.) "Bob", 81, of Joppa, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Annapolis Junction, MD to David William Whitehead Sr. and Viola Amelia Byer Whitehead. Bob was a caring and adventurous man who enjoyed animals, fishing, scuba diving, boating, stock car racing, flying both planes and helicopters and traveling around the world. He graduated from Arundel High School in 1953 and enlisted into the Maryland Army National Guard where he worked as a cook, supply sergeant and auditor. He then attended flight school at Fort Rucker, AL and graduated in 1964 as a helicopter pilot for the Maryland Army National Guard followed by flight instructor school where he graduated in 1971. He was an instructor pilot for the Maryland Army National Guard for 30 years where he also flew with the border patrol and MSP/MDARING Operation Weedout and he received the Honorable Order of St. Michael Award with the Maryland Army National Guard on September 11, 2010.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dorothy Elaine Whitehead (nee Price); son, Robert H. Whitehead Jr. of Joppa, daughters, Donna E. Whitehurst of Joppa and Patricia A. Murdy and husband, Tom, of Street; grandchildren, Tristan Sprague of Abingdon, Nickolas Whitehurst of Joppa, Madison and Mason Murdy of Street; and sisters, Betty Bryant, Nancy Gruver, Rose Gloth, Susan Anderson, Kathy Gorney and Dottie Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Dave and Richard Whitehead and sisters, Elsie Lamar and Regina Walker.
