Clifford McMillin, age 89, of Bel Air, MD passed away on November 20, 2012 at his son's home. Born in Hatboro, PA, he was the son of the late Clifford J. and Anna Marie Ford McMillin and husband of the late Charlotte F. McMillin. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he served our country in the Pacific Theater during WWII and spent 37 years working for Bell Telephone of PA and AT&T. He retired in 1986 as a buildings engineer with Ma Bell. In 1956, on loan from the telephone company, he worked for Western Electric in the Arctic constructing portions of the DEW (Defense Early Warning) System. He was a Pennsylvania transplant to the Wye River on Maryland's Eastern Shore where he crabbed and sailed for 25 years. In his 70's and 80's, he was a regular member of the crew on a sailboat for the Wednesday night races out of the Miles River Yacht Club in St. Michaels but it wasn't until his son, Bruce, moved to the area and they spent a vacation chartering a sailboat in the summer of 1979, that he fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay.
Mr. McMillin is survived by his sons, Bruce C. McMillin of Bel Air, MD and Brian J. McMillin of Schwenksville, PA; grandchildren, Christopher M. McMillin, Kerry M. Emm, Jennifer A. and Stephen J. McMillin; and great-grandchildren, Rory M. McMillin and Mackenzie R. Emm. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, William and Chester Ford.
