Claudia Merle Mabe Hawkins

CLAUDIA MERLE MABE HAWKINS, age 78, of Aberdeen, MD, met the Lord on June 20, 2006 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville , VA. Born in Bristol, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Bruce and Mary Virginia Wilson Phillips. She lived in Harford County most of her life and worked at Bata Shoe Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Creswell, MD. Her family said that she enjoyed cooking, gardening and singing in the church choir.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her husband of 16 years, William Clarence Hawkins of Aberdeen, MD; three sons, Alfred L. Mabe, Jr. and Donald W. Mabe, both of Delta, PA and Richard L. Mabe of Manassas Park, VA; three daughters, Patsy L. Trussell of Raleigh, NC, Susan G. Gosewisch and Victoria H. Stevenson, both of Edgewood, MD; four brothers, Robert B. Phillips Jr., Billy D. Phillips, and Harold Phillips, all of Virginia and Donald D. Phillips of Edgewood, MD; one sister, JoAnn Pope of Baltimore, MD; two step-sons, William C. Hawkins of Tampa, FL and Edward F. Hawkins of Aberdeen, MD; four step-daughters, Patricia A. Detardo of New Hampshire, Rebecca Ellis of Perryville, MD, Julia I. Engle of Culpeper, VA and Melissa D. Hawkins of Perryville, MD; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred L. Mabe, Sr.; one daughter, Linda C. Mabe; one brother, Jack Wilson Phillips; and one sister, Mary F. Cornette.
