Clarence was born on March 11, 1927 to Howard Benjamin and Ethel Bowman Boyle in Level, MD in 1927. He passed away on March 27, 2012 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD.
A lifelong Harford County resident and 1944 graduate of Bel Air High School, he worked for Kroh's Cleaners before entering the car business at Lee Buick in Perryman, MD in 1953. In 1968, he then purchased the dealership from his friend Joe Lee, renaming it Boyle Buick, subsequently moving it to its current location in 1976. He continued to serve in an active role as Chairman of the Board until his recent health issues.
He was a well regarded business man, serving on the Business Advisory Board for First National Bank of Maryland (now M&T Bank), the Board of Directors of Harford Mutual Insurance Company in Bel Air, and served on the President's Dealer Advisory Board of General Motors Corporation. A founding member of Maryland Golf and Country Club, he served as its fourth president.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene Kahoe Boyle, and his children. It is notable, that as an only child, he has over 70 descendants including their spouses: Clarence Boyle, Jr, and his wife Pat, Linda Boyle Berry and husband Pete, Michael Boyle, Sr. and his wife Carmella, Mary Sue Boyle Lynch and her husband Donald, Christopher Boyle, Sr. and his wife Cindy, and Brooke Boyle, Sr. and his wife Kim.
His family includes over twenty three grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren (with two more on the way). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Kahoe Lynch and her husband, P. Eugene Lynch.
A parishioner at both St. Ignatius and St. Margaret's Catholic Churches in Bel Air, he also was active in many civic and community groups including: American Legion Lifetime Member, Lions Club, Aberdeen Rotary (formally President), MD New Car Dealers Association, Association of the United States Army (formally President), Awarded a Harford County Living Treasure with his wife Irene.
After a distinctive high school baseball career, he was offered a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers, which he declined to enroll in the service.
A veteran of the United States Army, Clarence served from 1944 through 1946. After being injured in Germany, he was honorably discharged in October of 1946.
Growing up in Level near the airport, he received his pilot's license prior to his driver's license. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, golf, fishing, and especially family and dear friends.
Pallbearers are his grandsons: Michael Boyle, Jr., Patrick Boyle, Gregory Boyle, Matthew Boyle, Chad Boyle, Blake Boyle, Donald Lynch, III, Daniel Lynch, Derek Lynch, Dustin Lynch and Randy Boyle. Honorary Pallbearers are: Paul E. Lynch, Sr., Gerard Kunkel , Gerard Baxter, Paul Haviland, Robert Smith, Sr. and Samuel Alascio.
