Clara R. Wilson, age 97, of Bel Air, MD passed away on May 18, 2017 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD with family by her side. Born in Wilkes County, NC, she was the daughter of William and Florence (Jones) Roberts and the wife of the late John William Wilson. She moved with her family to Harford County, MD when she was 7 and attended grade and high school in Highland where she met her husband. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1943 and later that year married her husband at Highland Presbyterian Church. She traveled with her husband while he was in the Army and then returned to Harford County where they bought their family farm. On the farm she took care of over 1000 chickens. In 1952 they bought Del Haven which at the time was a hotel/motel, gas station and restaurant. In 1966 they tore down Del Haven, built a shopping center and named it Del Plaza. She worked hard alongside her husband and they remained owner/ operators of the shopping center until they retired in 2001. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to many bridge groups in the Bel Air area. In 2008 after she lost her husband, she went to live at Avondell.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by daughter, Lucy Wilson Hollens and her husband Tom of Bel Air; two sons, John W. Wilson Jr. and his wife Jennie of Orlando, FL and Stanley R. Wilson and his wife Janet of Quantico, MD; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Stephen H. Wilson.
