CHARLES W. MARTIN, SR., age 61, of Joppa, died at Franklin Square Hospital on October 15, 2003. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Calvin Martin and Charlotte May Carrick Hardesty. He had worked as a truck driver for Sysco Food Service for 12 years and John Gibbons for 18 years. He had also worked at S & E Truck Stop in White Marsh for 18 years. He enjoyed collecting coins, fishing and crabbing. He also enjoyed helping people.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Martin; one son, Charles W. Martin, Jr. of Edgewood; two daughters, Darlina L. Martin of Abingdon; Diana L. Martin of Catonsville; step-children, Robert H. Shepard; Melissa A. Shepard, both of Edgewood; four brothers, Harvey D. Hardesty of Rogersville, Tennessee; Robert L. Hardesty of Albany, New York; Leonard L. Hardesty of Rogersville, Tennessee; William L. Hardesty of Joppa; two sisters, Rose Marie Blair of Edgewood; Gertrude Paschall of Bel Air; two grandchildren; Darius L. Martin of Abingdon; and Silas A. Mercer of Catonsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Henry E. Hardesty.
