Charles W. Hearn

December 22, 1927 — January 23, 2022

Charles W. Hearn, age 94, of Forest Hill, Maryland passed away on January 23, 2022 at Hart Heritage Estates - Street, Maryland. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of John and Thelma (Jamison) Hearn and husband of the late Dolores Hearn. Charles was born in 1927 and is from a family of watermen and never lost the love of being on the water. He was very proud to be a veteran of the Army Air Force serving in Guam near the end of WW2 and went on to work at Western Electric where he became a long line specialist.  He went across the world on a ship with his team connecting underwater cable lines so people could make long distance calls.  He met his late wife Dolores Charlton before the war and when he came back, he sought her out and started writing her love letters and poetry till she fell in love with him.  They eloped New Year’s Eve and kept it a secret for a year.  They were married 61 years before she passed away.

They had one child Denise Hearn McGhee and through her and Rick McGhee he became the grandfather of Daniel Joshua McGhee, Amanda( Mandy) Grace McGhee and David Benjamin Hearn McGhee.  Through them and their spouses he became the great grandfather of Cameron Koellner, Madelyn Koellner, Jeremiah McGhee, Joel McGhee and Joshua McGhee.

He was a loner and went to breakfast at Bob Evans 6 days a week until he fell ill.  He did love his cats and his last cat, Peanuts, his tuxedo cat was his buddy.  He also loved being on the water and spent 41 years June to September on the Chesapeake Bay catching flounder, thus earning himself the nickname “flounder pounder”.  Before that you could find him with a fishing pole on Rumsey Island. In his later years he loved being called Chuckie Baby and if there was any music with a beat he was tapping along. . He liked to bird watch, listen to country music and blues.  Red Hot Henry Brown was his favorite song.  He loved his late wife Delores deeply and once she became ill his daughter Denise became his everything.  He was an honest man, a loyal man, and fiercely independent.  We remember and celebrate the life of the man who was before the strokes and say thank you God for this life

Charles is survived by his daughter, Denise Leslie (Rick) McGhee; grandsons, Daniel (Alisha) Joshua McGhee and David (Amanda) Benjamin Hearn McGhee; granddaughter, Mandy (Ken) Grace Young; great-grandson, Cameron J. Koellner, great-granddaughter, Madelyn B. Koellner  great-grandsons, Jeremiah David McGhee; Joel David McGhee; and Joshua David McGhee. nieces, Dana Diehl and Patricia Schoberlein;
