Charles Thomas Rothwell, 65, of Darlington, MD passed away on March 10, 2015 following a brief illness.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years, Charla M. Graybill Rothwell, his devoted children Melissa A. Rothwell Pembrooke of Garnet Valley, PA, and Matthew C.B. Rothwell and wife, Cristin C. Kelleher Rothwell of Darlington, MD; the joys of his life his grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth, Peter Charles, and Charlotte Jane plus a new baby blessing on the way.
He is predeceased by his father, William D. Rothwell. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Oliver Rothwell of Perryman, MD, brother Bill Rothwell of Asheville, NC, and sisters Mary Kemp of Owings Mills and Virginia Childers of Perryman, his aunt, Janice Rothwell of Elkton, MD, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and dear friends.
Raised in Perryman, MD and graduated from Aberdeen High School, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1973 in an intelligence capacity for NSG where he traveled the world.
Following his service, Charles moved to Darlington, MD where he raised his family and operated his own landscaping business for 12 years.
Cooking was a first love for Charles, whose grandmother taught him how to bake bread. He decided to change careers and graduated from the Baltimore International Culinary Arts Institute of Baltimore, MD. Charles was a chef for Charles Levine Caterers, MD Golf & Country Club and then Innkeeper and Chef for the Vandiver Inn in Havre de Grace, MD until he ran his own distribution company for 25 years as a rep for R. L. Schreiber and Karlsburger Foods selling spices and food bases. He had a passion for life and people and he loved working with his customers and knowing their family's stories.
Charles was a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church, Perryman, MD and then later of Deer Creek Harmony Church, Darlington, MD. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading, listening to music, entertaining, cooking and teaching others to cook.
Those who desire may make a donation to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Maryland Chapter designated for use in Mantle Cell Lymphoma Research in his memory. The contributions may be mailed to 100 Painters Mill Road, Suite 800, Owings Mills, MD 21117.
