Charles "Jake" H. Rogers Jr.

Charles "Jake" H. Rogers Jr., age 87, of Edgewood, MD passed away on June 22nd, 2013 at the Bel Air Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Sparrows Point, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Hiawatha Rogers Sr. and Dora Matheny Rogers. For 53 years he was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy "Dot" D. Krohn Rogers. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII on the USS Samuel S. Miles DE-183 as a signalman. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater with 8 stars, and American Theatre with 1 star. He retired, after 35 years, from Bethlehem Steel where he was a crane millwright foreman. He was a member of the Edgewood American Legion, Joppatowne Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Destroyers Escort Sailors Association. In his retirement years, he traveled with his camping club, was an avid golfer, and often line danced with his friends at the Richlin Ballroom. While at Swan Creek Country Club on August 26, 1983, he shot a "Hole-in-One" on the 13th hole, which was an achievement he fondly recalled to many of his fellow golfers. Above all, Jake adored his wife, family, and friends.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his daughters, Kathleen C. Evans of Loris, SC and Susan R. Wilhelm of Laurel, MD; brother, William E. Rogers of Bethlehem, PA; grandchildren, Ronald Allan Evans, Robert Scott Evans, Elizabeth Anne Wilhelm, and Brittany Rogers Wilhelm; and great-grandchildren, Colin, Erin, and Graham Evans. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings Rollin Rogers, Helen Rogers Alvarez, Kenneth Rogers, and Geraldine Rogers Marrah.
