Charles Howard Lebegern, Jr., of Churchville, MD, died at the age of 89 on October 29, 2016 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. He was born in Wilmington, DE to Charles Howard Lebegern, Sr. and Helen (Burrows) Lebegern. A graduate of Newark High School in 1945 and the University of Delaware in 1950, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served our country during WWII. He retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD in 1985 and during his career served as chairman of a NATO panel in Brussels, Belgium as well as being involved with the JTCG/ME at AMSAA, APG. Charlie held the position of Chief of the Firing Tables Branch at the Ballistics Research Laboratory (BRL) at APG. He also was the recipient of many honors during his 35-year career which included the Distinguished Civilian Service Award and the Kent Award with BRL.
Charlie was a member of the Churchville Presbyterian Church and held many key positions, including being an Elder and choir member. He loved to sing at weddings and special events, and he sang with his sister during the Big Band Era in the early years. He also enjoyed dancing and traveling to his second home in Rehoboth Beach, DE. He had a great sense of humor, and he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He traveled all over the world with family and for work, and he had a special place in his heart for his grand-dog and all his cats.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Rowley Lebegern of 64 years; his children, Janet Lebegern Treusdell (Ronald) of Churchville and Carla Lebegern Harward (Stephen) of Bel Air; his grandchildren, Kerry Ellen Treusdell and Matthew Charles Treusdell both of Churchville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom he loved. Charlie was predeceased by his sister, Katherine (Lebegern) Gallagher and his brother, William S. Lebegern.
