Charles Elvin Williamson, age 82 of Bel Air, MD, passed away on January 11, 2009. Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Lloyd Glend and Edith Hunter Williamson. He was a biochemist at Edgewood Arsenal receiving a doctorate from Johns Hopkins in 1971 and retiring in 1979. He led a research team in early cancer chemotherapy using chemical warfare compounds. As an orchid enthusiast, he became owner/operator of Jungle Gems Orchids, Inc in Edgewood until 1995. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church for many years and was highly devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He had a special interest in genealogy and outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and fishing. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife and friends in his later years.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susannah Lyons Williamson of Bel Air, MD; sons, Michael Lloyd Williamson of Forest Hill, MD, Paul Hunter Williamson of Joppatowne, MD, and James Christopher Williamson of Phoenix, MD; daughters, Cynthia Lyons Williamson of Jarrettsville, MD, Patricia Bryan Walsh of Berlin, MD and Mary Elizabeth Williamson of Johnson City, TN; brother, Arthur Lloyd Williamson of Portsmouth, VA; and 12 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his son, David Glend Williamson, predeceased him.
