Charles Edward Anderson Sr.

May 5, 1923 — October 17, 2010

Charles E. Anderson Sr., age 87, of Capon Bridge, WV, went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2010 from complications of Parkinson Disease.

Born in Joppa, MD, he was the son of the late Stephen Haven Anderson Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Leonard Anderson. Many knew him as "Ed" from his childhood in Harford County, MD, and "Andy" from his Coast Guard service and "Charlie" for much of his insurance career in Essex, MD.

He is survived by his wife Vera York Anderson; children Charles Jr., Timothy, and Judy (Anderson) O'Neill; grandchildren Marci (Anderson) Burns and Tricia (daughters of Charles Jr. and Gail); stepchildren, Betty Ertwine, Susan Lefteris, Kathi Ford, and William York Jr.; and seven step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by the mother of his children Elizabeth "Libby" Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Paul, Stephen Jr., Norman, and Henry Anderson, and Mary Greenfield.

His children remember the family vacations as they explored the United States by car; also, they remember his support in running "taxi" service in picking them up after high school sports practice and games, and the encouragement of obtaining a college education.

Charlie retired after a career in selling insurance for the Nationwide Insurance Company in 1990, and retired to his and Vera's mountain cabin in West Virginia, where he liked to work in his garden growing fresh vegetables, at his desk working on his stamp collection, and doing odd jobs around the house and neighborhood. But most of all, he loved meeting and talking to people, making new friends, and re-establishing connections with old friends. Special times were the retirees' insurance conventions in Florida, the many cruises all over the world, and the road trips in their van visiting many of the people they met on cruises. Charlie had a full life, and his genuine interest in his fellow man touched the lives of many.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628211, Orlando, FL 32862-8211.
