Charles "Chuck" Ray Cornett, a beloved patriarch and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Hamlin, Virginia, he was the son of the late Wayne Cornett and Alice (May) Sherman. Chuck was the devoted husband of Sara (Wilt) Cornett for 73 wonderful years.
A proud member of Mount Ararat Lodge 44 AF & AM in Bel Air, Chuck exemplified dedication in all aspects of his life. He retired from the Harford County Highway Administration at 67, where he served as Chief Shop Steward for 10 years. Very shortly afterwards he returned to the work force until he was 85.
Family was Chuck’s greatest joy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great-grandfather, he cherished every moment spent with his expansive family. Known for his playful spirit, he delighted in teasing his grandchildren, creating joyful memories that will be treasured forever. Chuck took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, always eager to celebrate their accomplishments and offer unwavering support.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Chuck’s passion for welding kept him busy in his workshop, where he brought creative projects to life. He also had a meticulous nature when it came to detailing cars, often spending hours ensuring every detail was immaculate—from the engine to the tires.
In his downtime, Chuck enjoyed watching old westerns, although he often found himself captivated by his wife’s soap operas, sharing those moments with her. His strong-willed character and love for life were matched only by his fondness for a good whiskey, which he enjoyed in the company of family and friends.
Chuck leaves behind a large, loving family who will carry forward his proud legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
