Charles ''Charlie'' E. Hughes

January 6, 1939 — April 15, 2007

CHARLES “CHARLIE” E. HUGHES, age 68, of Bel Air, MD, died on April 15, 2007, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late James Russell and Gladys Viola Rodgers Hughes. He served the U.S. government at Aberdeen Proving Ground for thirty years, retiring as systems manager in 1994. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He held a lifelong passion for aviation history and was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics for more than fifty years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching his grandchildren blossom.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan L. Solter Hughes of Bel Air, MD; two sons, R. Scott Hughes of Havre de Grace, MD, and Stephen B. Hughes and his wife, Elizabeth K. Hughes of Roanoke, VA; one brother, John R. Hughes and his wife, Sherrie of Lutherville, MD; three grandchildren, Noah H. Hughes of Havre de Grace, MD, and Ethan E. Hughes and Andrew S. Hughes, both of Roanoke, VA; and nine nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by a brother, William “Bill” Hughes.
