Charles "Buck" Joseph Kelso, 87, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Buck was the cherished son of the late William and Elizabeth (Siegmund) Kelso.
Buck graduated from Patterson High School in Baltimore and proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army, completing two years of active duty followed by six years in the Army Reserves. His dedication to his community continued beyond his military service as he spent many years coaching youth recreational football in Bel Air, leaving a lasting impact on countless young athletes. He worked for Verizon for 37 years retiring in 1995. He was very proud that he attended University of Baltimore for 6 years of night school, while working, graduating with a Batchlor of Science Degree in Engineering, with honors, Magna Cum Laude and receiving entry into the Beta Alpha Honorary Scholarship Society.
A proud member of the National Rifle Association, Buck had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He found joy in woodworking making many family heirlooms for family members, hunting deer and bear, and crabbing with many family members, and he was always quick to reach out and help anyone, especially family. His love of nature was matched only by his devotion to his family.
Buck was a true family man, happiest when surrounded by loved ones. He treasured hosting many family gatherings at his home, where laughter and love filled the air during countless special occasions. His warmth, wisdom, and enduring sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Buck is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years and 10 months, Mary Louise (Johns) Kelso, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends as they honor his remarkable life and the many memories they shared.
In addition to his wife, Buck is survived by his sons, Charles Joseph Kelso, Jr. and his spouse Elaine, Craig Louis Kelso, and his spouse Kimberly; daughter, Dawn Ann Kelso Riddle, and her spouse Jeffery, daughter in law Sheri Kelso; 10 grandchildren and spouses; 13 great-grandchildren; his beloved sister, Betty Mae Apperson and her spouse Ron and sister-in-law, Arlene Kelso, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by son, Gary Thomas Kelso, and brother, William George Kelso.
