CHARLES ALLEN MOORE, age 76, of Bel Air, died at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, on May 17, 2006. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Thomas Allen and Mary Isabelle Hawkins Moore.
Raised in Baltimore County, Mr. Moore graduated from Kenwood High School and attended State Teachers College at Towson earning a Bachelors Degree of Education. He received his Masters of Education from University of Maryland and later attended a Special Advanced Program in Math at Rutgers University. In September 1951, his teaching career began at Sparrows Point Elementary School teaching seventh grade. In October of that year, he was drafted into the Army and sent to Fort Meade and on to Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Special orders from the Pentagon sent him to Fort Eustis, Virginia to Transportation Headquarters School where he taught math. In October 1953, he was honorably discharged and immediately resumed teaching at Kenwood Jr. High/ Sr. High School now Golden Ring Middle School. His next move was to Middle River Junior High School and was assigned to Annex schools: Upper Falls, Vil-Gar and Orems. He opened the newly constructed Deep Creek Middle School as Assistant Principal. After 13 years, he transferred to Overlea High School for four years and was reassigned to Perry Hall Jr. High School as principal. He was responsible for the transition of Perry Hall Jr. High School to Perry Hall Middle School. Throughout teaching, his philosophy was “teach the child first – the subject second.” He ended his professional teaching career of Math and Science by retiring in 1984.
He belonged to U.S. Power Squadron, attaining the rank of navigator. In 1966, he joined the Bush River Yacht Club where he was an active member for 35 years. He served office as secretary and also as editor of the Club paper, the Burgee.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Moore; two daughters, Mary E. Moore of Jarrettsville, MD and Ann L. Schultz of Joppa, MD; a son, Charlie C. Moore of Fallston, MD; a brother, Thomas Milton Moore of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren, Mary Ramsey of Bel Air, MD, Angela Garner of Perryville, MD, Allen Schultz of Joppa, MD, Joanne Schultz of Jarrettsville, MD, Justin King of Fallston, MD, Charla Moore of Fallston, MD, and Kayla Moore of Fallston, MD; and nine great grandchildren, David Ramsey of Bel Air, MD, Raymond Moore of Jarrettsville, MD, Marcus Ramsey of Bel Air, MD, William Moore of Jarrettsville, MD, Michael Moore of Jarrettsville, MD, Avé Ramsey of Bel Air, MD, Matthew Moore of Jarrettsville, MD, Julian Moore of Jarrettsville, MD, and Elijah Ramsey of Bel Air, MD.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Norris Moore.
