CHARLENE F. OSBORN, age 84, died in her home town of Bel Air, MD on Sunday, June 3, 2007, during convalescence after surgery. Born in Tuscola, IL, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Flanagan. Ms. Osborn graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1941 after which she went on to serve on the War Price and Rationing Board as Chief Clerk during WWII. She married James Paul Osborn, a former classmate, in 1945. The couple was stationed at various military installations during Sgt. Osborn’s military career. They were ultimately transferred to Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD in 1963, and he retired in 1965. The marriage later ended in divorce. Ms. Osborn was employed by Donald and Gert Holmes of Acme Signs, for 22 years. Instead of retiring, she went on to work at SAIC-EAI Corporation, Abingdon, MD.
Her love for crafts resulted in several collections. An avid sports fan, she particularly enjoyed golf and baseball, following the careers of both Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tiger Woods.
Ms. Osborn is survived by her daughter, Nancy Chester and her husband, Keith; one grandson, Christopher Osborn; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Osborn, all of whom reside in Bel Air, MD.
In addition to her parents and brother, Jim Flanagan, she was predeceased by her only son, J. Bradley Osborn.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Ms. Osborn’s name to the
