Cecil H. Stanley, also known as "Sonny" and "Uncle Sonny", age 79, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2016 at his home in Bel Air, MD. He was born in St. Ann, Jamaica to the late George Stanley and Ivy May (Balfour) Stanley.
In Jamaica he worked as a carpenter, automobile painter and post man. He migrated to the US after working with the Post Office system for over twenty years.
He spent over twenty years as an environmental technician at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in NY before retiring.
He was a professing Christian, who attended the Bronx Church of the Nazarene in NY. When he relocated to Maryland, Edgewood Assembly of God became his church home. He was a member of the bowling team and enjoyed participating in the Men's Ministry. He enjoyed shooting pool and loved listening to music.
He was a hard worker and a very kind and loving family man. He was very meticulous in projects he engaged in and dressed well on occasion.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis L. (Marsh) Stanley; daughters Janet Rose (Samuel Rose) of Abingdon, MD, Avrille Davis (Egbert Davis-deceased) of Bronx, NY, Marjorie Stanley and Winsome Stanley both of Wappingers Falls, NY; brothers Horace, Logan, Winston, Rupert and Luther Stanley all of Jamaica; sister Frances Stanley of Boston, MA; and grandchildren Achim, Ishmael and Alicia Davis, Opal, Patrick and Anthony Rose and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws. Cecil was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Leonard.
