Cecil F. Petty, age 85, of Street, MD, died on February 16, 2010 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Laurel Springs, NC, he was the son of the late Emmett and Nora Richardson Petty. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked as an Artillery Mechanic at Aberdeen Proving Ground where he retired after 40 years of service. A member of New Bridge Baptist Church in Rising Sun, he served as a deacon there for many years. He was an avid gardener and was very devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Petty is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary E. Smithson Petty of Street, MD; son, Ronald C. Petty and wife, Glenda, of Havre de Grace, MD; granddaughters, Sara C. Oswald and husband, Paul, of Pylesville, MD and Jenna K. Mahoney and husband, Patrick, of Havre de Grace, MD; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Oswald and Evan Oswald; and sister, Rose Poole of Bel Air, MD.
Pallbearers will be Paul Oswald, Garry Smithson, Larry Smithson, Michael Jones, R. Colby Bearch, and James Kundratic.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 32 Wyatt Lane, Colora, MD 21917.
