CATHERINE S. EDWARDS, age 55, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formerly of Havre de Grace, passed away on September 9, 2003 at her home in Philadelphia. Born in Oelwein, Iowa, she was the daughter of Chrystal Alberta Thornberry Edwards of Susquehanna River Hills in Havre de Grace and the late Phillip Mabry Edwards. Ms. Edwards had been employed for several years as a staff attorney by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights in Philadelphia.
Ms. Edwards was a graduate of Duke University and the University of Maryland Law School. She was previously employed by the Baltimore law firm of Smith, Somerville & Case and served as law clerk to Judge Shirley Jones of the U.S. District Court for Maryland following her graduation from law school in 1980.
In addition to her mother, Ms. Edwards is survived by her nephew, Samuel E. Tucker of St. Peters, Missouri. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her sister, Chrystal A. Edwards.
Pallbearers will be: Daniel Carson, Robert Carson, Thomas W. Hopkins, and Charles Leydecker.
Ms. Edwards suffered from multiple sclerosis during the last years of her life, and it is requested that those who desire make contributions to Multiple Sclerosis, 1 Reed Street, Suite 200, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19147.
