CATHERINE “PAT” IOLA R. MICHAEL, age 97, of Aberdeen, died of pneumonia at Johns Hopkins Hospital on September 7, 2005. Born in Pleasantville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late James Hamlin and Mary Ellen Henderson Riley and the wife for 14 years of the late J. Smith Michael whom she married in 1964 and who died in 1978 and the wife for 26 years of her first husband Henry T. Weisheit whom she married in 1936 and who died in 1962.
A graduate of Youth’s Benefit School, she worked in Harford County during the late 1920s and early 1930s as a secretary for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and Sisk & Co., a canning company.
An accomplished business woman, she along with her husband, Mr. Weisheit, was the owner and operator of the Schuck’s Corner Store for more than 20 years. Their favorite hobby was collecting antiques. She took many charities under personal attention and supported many different programs including Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Johns Hopkins University, the Highlands School, and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. She was also involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Harford County, Steppingstone Museum, Friends of Jerusalem Mill, Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, and the Havre de Grace Lockhouse Museum.
Mrs. Michael had been a member of the Harford County Liquor Board and Equitable Trust Company’s Harford County Advisory Board. For many years, she lived on a farm overlooking the Chesapeake Bay and Swan Creek.
Mrs. Michael is survived by one step-daughter, Beverly M. Michael Close of Bel Air; several step-grandchildren; her beloved dog companion, Ashley Michael, a brother-in-law, Alan S. Weisheit of Bel Air, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by a step-son, John Calvin Michael; a step-daughter, Beatrice Michael Smith; two brothers, James Riley and Allan Riley; and one sister, Marjorie Riley Campbell.
Pallbearers were: Parker Mitchell, III, James T. Van Rensselaer, John Reckard, James William Middelton, Jr., Frank S. Smith, III, Stevenson W. Close, Jr., and Dr. Thomas Bonsack. Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. Patrick C. Walsh, Frederick O. Mitchell, II, Dr. RoseMary Bonsack, Charles O. Spang, C. Curtis Morgan, J. William Middelton, Harry V. Webster, Clarence C, Pusey, and T. Carroll Brown.
