Carolyn Belcher

CAROLYN HARMON BELCHER, age 56, of Edgewood died at her residence on April 7, 2005. She was born on July 14, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Joe Simmons and the late Evelyn Harmon She was the eldest of four sisters.

She was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, where she attended Dobbins Vocational School and excelled in all her courses and extracurricular activities. Carol married the late Tommie Grubbs, Sr. on September 12, 1966. Of that union one son, Tommie, Jr., was born. In October of 1983 Carol married Walter C. Belcher, Sr. and had two sons, Walter, Jr. and Eric Alan.

She was employed with Johns Hopkins University Medical Education for nearly a decade, where she was a hard worker and dedicated to the students’ excellence.

As a loving mother and sister full of life, her flamboyance, style, and energy was exceeded only by the size of her heart. She was heavily involved in her children’s lives and their activities. Carol was an avid gardener and jazz enthusiast, and enjoyed home-decorating and entertaining. She enjoyed traveling and she loved to laugh. In her heart was the desire to be a public servant. But her passion was the Mac computer and all that she created with it.

Mrs. Belcher is survived by three sons, Tommie Lee Grubbs of Jacksonville, Florida, Walter C. Belcher of Edgewood, and Eric Alan Belcher of Edgewood; two granddaughters, Laquandra Grubbs of Jacksonville, Florida, and Shayla Belcher of Edgewood; three sisters, Jule A. Hatchell of Ambler, Pennsylvania, Velma M. Jackson of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Audra M. Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; one niece, Dorian Hatchell of Ambler, Pennsylvania; two nephews, David “J.” Hatchell, and Derrick Hatchell both of Ambler, Pennsylvania; eleven cousins and a host of friends and relatives.
