CARMEN MARIE BECKWITH, age 87, of Chase, Maryland, died in Franklin Square Medical Center, Rossville, on August 6, 2005. Born in Wausau, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Alice Sonntag Stieber, and the wife of the late Raymond Edwin Beckwith. A resident of Harford County since 1964, she was the daughter of a German Baker. She graduated from University of Wausau, in Wisconsin earning a teaching degree. She had worked for an insurance company as a claims representative. She served her country in the U.S. Army during WW II and worked at the Pentagon. She was involved in breaking codes to track where KamiKaze Pilots would strike. She started teaching at Edgewood High School in 1966 where she made many long time friends both students and faculty. She retired in 1984 and continued to substitute for several years after that. She taught accounting at Harford Community College. While teaching she earned her Masters Degree from Towson University. She loved to cook and take food to everyone. Her family said she was a mother to everyone.
Mrs. Beckwith is survived by one son, Michael A. Beckwith of Chase, Maryland; one daughter, Sharon R. Sheckles of Perryville; two brothers, Norman Stieber and Robert Stieber; one sister, Dorothy Sechart, all of Wisconsin; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
