Carlos Diaz Rivera

November 8, 1954 — September 16, 2024

Carlos Diaz Rivera, age 69, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away on September 16, 2024, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Born in Morovis, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Victorio Diaz Perez and Otilia Rivera Otero. Carlos was the beloved husband of Lydia (Colon DelRio) Diaz for 40 years.

From an early age Carlos had a knack for the sciences. He knew at age 11 that he wanted to be an engineer and was the first of his family to receive a college degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Colegio de Mayagüez. He dedicated over 40 years of his life to public service working as a Chemical and Electrical Engineer for the Department of Defense. Carlos held his faith close and was a devoted member of Grace Assembly of God Church, where he actively participated in the music and Spanish language ministry. A talented guitarist, composer, and vocalist, he shared his musical gifts with his congregation. Alongside his wife Lydia, he was a strong supporter of many of the church’s ministries including Helping Hands Mission, donating Christmas gifts to underprivileged children in the community.

Carlos cherished his time with family above all else, especially with his grandchildren. He played a significant role in his grandson Isaiah’s life, imparting his wisdom and values that will remain cherished forever. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren, whether it was taking them to the playground, going on walks, or serenading them with songs on his guitar. His family and friends remember him for his generosity, his legendary dad jokes, and his many herbal concoctions. He loved to travel with his wife, visiting different countries and enjoying their culture over the years. In his free moments, he found joy in playing dominos, caring for his beautiful plants, and listening to his favorite music, loudly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lydia; his son, Carlos A. Diaz (Krishna Patel); his daughters, Melissa A. Diaz and Natalia L. Chatman; and his grandchildren, Isaiah, Rafael, Arjuna, Isabella, and Anjolina. Carlos is also survived by seven brothers and three sisters.

Contributions in Carlos’ memory may be made to Grace Assembly of God, Hispanic Ministry.
